Terpenoids are fragrant, aromatic compounds in cannabis that are primarily responsible for giving genetic flower strains their distinctive smell and taste. In a fashion similar to aromatherapy, there is a wealth of evidence that they can also modulate the effects on the human body and could explain why isolated cannabinoids without terpenes do not appear to have the same effects on the body and mind.

// ABOUT TERPENES

A pair of crossed scissors on a white background.

Terpenes can be distinguished by the number of their repeating isoprene units (C5H8), for example, Monoterpenes such as myrcene and limonene are composed of two isoprene units (C10H16); and Sesquiterpenes such as humulene and farnesene are composed of three isoprene units (C15H24). Terpenes exhibit various therapeutic properties such as being anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antifungal, and anticancer.

// OUR TESTS

While we do not focus on the sheer number of terpenes that we can analyze for, we find that most of our customers focus on the predominant terpenes present in cannabis and hemp varieties. Therefore, the number of terpenes that we analyze for are constantly evolving but at a minimum, we analyze the standard 21-compound panel. More compounds are available at request.
